– Welding Flux: Submerged arc welding utilizes a granular flux material deposited around the welding area. This flux provides a protective covering over the weld pool, preventing atmospheric contamination and enhancing weld quality. A welding torch or head is mounted on a mechanised carriage or manipulator, which moves along the joint.
SAW uses a bare welding wire or welding electrode made of mild steel or a low alloy steel. This welding electrode is fed continuously through the welding torch and into the arc. The advantages of SAW is the high deposition rates it provides. There is minimal spatter and has consistent weld quality. SAW is primarily used in welding thick plates and structural components in shipbuilding, pipeline construction and heavy equipment manufacturing.
